Why do customers only compare you on price? (A positioning problem)

If every negotiation turns into a price discussion, the problem is not the price — it is that the customer sees no other difference worth paying for.

"I have a cheaper offer" — a sentence that repeats often, and many business owners respond by cutting the price. The real problem is usually not the price at all.

Why this happens

When a customer sees no clear difference between you and a competitor except price, they choose the logical option: the cheaper one. That is not because they are frugal — it is because you gave them no other reason to weigh.

The alternative

  • Make clear what you offer that no one else offers in the same way.
  • Build trust before the price conversation even starts — through content, past work, testimonials.
  • If there truly is no real difference in the service, the problem is not marketing — it is the product itself.
When there is no clear positioning, price becomes the only criterion. That is the worst field to compete on.
